Ultrasound Fellowship

As a mature fellowship begun in 2015, we received initial EUFAC accreditation in 2021 and were recertified for an additional 3 years this May.  We have an established and proven record of training fellows to be proficient in their skills, evidence based in their thinking, and being established leaders in clinical acumen as they deploy their sonographic skills in all practice environments.

The program is situated in the state capital, and in the only academic medical center for all of northeastern New York, with a referral base encompassing 46% of the state of New York as well as counties in Vermont and Massachusetts.  50 of the 200 community hospitals in NY exist within this network. There is no competitor in the vast majority of medical services for 150 miles in any direction which is unique for the eastern United States. Our institutions unique investment in simulated technologies, ultrasound machines/arching infrastructure, and sizable ultrasound scan center allow for cutting edge research and training.

This high patient volume and immense acuity have allowed for an unrivaled  POCUS training environment. Add this to an overall ED faculty group who are dual trained in 13 subspecialty areas and who are without exception ultrasound embracers, and potentially most important, our off-service partners in the hospital who act emergently on our scans, and you have multiple weekly clinical saves that would be case reportable at another facility.

This is what has us all coming back.  Plus, at the end of the day you’re doing it all within a hospital wide family that put a smile on your face.

Our Infrastructure

Efficient Workflow

  • Barcode readers, wireless upload, documentation hosted directly on the ultrasound machine, and rapid machine log on eliminates unclaimed studies and database management by the fellow.

  • Web based archival system (QpathE) that seamlessly integrates with an automated workflow to Epic/PACS with automated order entry and now automated billing submission. Automated emails and reminders replaced the need to manually track down providers to ensure documentation compliance.

  • Ability to understand from the ground up the most advanced ultrasound infrastructure in the country and its deployment and maintenance at a departmental and system wide level
